Toshiba Qosmio X305 Gaming Laptop Review – G4tv.com

toshiba-qosmio-x305It’s not often that a gaming laptop gets even close to the power of a desktop, but Toshiba is not one to heed. They have stuffed their new Qosmio with dual Nvidia SLI video cards, an Intel dual core processor, 4 gigs of RAM and more.

What You Need to Know
  • The exhaust on the back is huge, so airflow is steady
  • It’s also actually a little lighter (at 9lbs.) than the Toshiba G55 laptop we reviewed recently
  • Even though it’s ridiculous, we kind of like the crazy red paint job
  • Since the trackpad is so thick and the keyboard is so far in, you might cramp your wrist gaming
  • You also constantly have your wrist over one of the speakers
  • We do like the click of the keys, and the lights and red interior are very cool
  • It has three video cards
  • We ran our 3DMark Vantage Tests and they actually came out a little lacking
  • Toshiba has put in two 9800M GTS video cards, and one 9400M Integrated GPU on the motherboard; they call this “Hybrid SLI”
  • It makes for good battery life since you can switch from integrated graphics to SLI
  • The 3DMark Vantage Test score was only an okay 4,800 points

Price
  • $2,000 for the unit
  • If you want to upgrade to a 128GB Solid State Drive, it’s $4,200
  • Comparable Alienware or Falcon Northwest laptops are the same price and their form factor is much smaller

Disney Research, MIT Media Lab, and Carnegie Mellon University have unveiled a new conceptual haptic “force jacket” that simulates physical experiences to people wearing the device. The force jacket is lined with airbags controlled by a computer that inflates and deflates the bags. Disney envisions the jacket will be used with VR headsets for more immersive experiences, given its ability to simulate hugs, being hit or punched, and peculiarly, the sensation of a snake slithering across your body. The jacket is made up of airbags with sensors attached that direct force and vibrations to specific locations on your body. The software-controlled jacket weighs about five pounds and has a valve system that inflates and deflates 26 air compartments. Review: Windows 10 April 2018 Update shows promise, but ultimately disappoints

After an unexpected delay, Microsoft has at last begun rolling out the new Windows 10 April 2018 Update (version 1803) half a year after the last big Windows 10 update, the Fall Creators Update (version 1709), in October 2017. The April 2018 Update, which was code-named Redstone 4, offers a slew of new features, notably one called Timeline that lets you quickly resume earlier activities, and the Diagnostic Data Viewer, which Microsoft says will make it easier for you to know and control what data Microsoft gathers about you.
