Apple will repair some Apple Watch 2 models that have swollen batteries or won’t power on for free

 
Apple will fix some Apple Watch Series 2 devices if they have a swollen battery or don’t turn on, according to a new service policy seen by MacRumors.
The policy states that “some Apple Watch Series 2 devices may not power on or they may experience an expanded battery,” and that it will service “eligible devices free of charge.” Only 42mm-sized models are eligible for free repairs, which includes the Sport, Edition, Hermès, and Nike+ variants. MacRumors says that this does not apply to Series 1 or three models, nor the 38mm model.
In 2017, Apple extended its service policy twice for first-generation Apple Watch models: in instances when the back cover separated from the watch, and for swollen batteries.

Batteries in New iPhones Could Have Shorter Life Spans

  There was some bad news for owners of the latest iPhone models on Monday. Batteries in the iPhone 8 and X may have shorter life spans than those in prior models, according to an article in ZDNet. The battery in contributor Adrian Kingsley-Hughes' iPhone 8 Plus was racking up recharge cycles at an alarming rate, he wrote. A recharge cycle occurs when a phone is charged from zero power to 100 percent. Typically, phone batteries begin losing their effectiveness after 500 recharges. Up to that point, they can hold up to 80 percent of their charge. After that, it's usually downhill for the battery. After only four months, Kingsley-Hughes discovered that his new iPhone had hit 91 recharge cycles, a much faster rate than he'd seen in his previous iPhones. Apple applies for patent that lets riders virtually fight zombies or hang glide in self-driving cars

Image: United States Patent and Trademark Office Apple has applied to patent a VR system for autonomous cars that would use interior screens and VR headsets to alter the interior of the vehicle, as reported by VentureBeat . The patent, applied for in September 2017 and published last week, is framed as a way to “address problems with vehicles in motion that may result in motion sickness for passengers” by replacing views of the real world with virtual environments. On top of that, the patent proposes at least one VR controller that generates virtual content for projection and a mechanism for projecting onto windows of the vehicle.
